Through an anthropological study of the historical corn process of the “millo corvo” species, Carozo offers an innovative combination of design and craft work, transmitting the value of maintaining cultural heritage.

Traditionally, in times of scarcity, Galicians made the most of the resources surrounding them, creating collaboartive and sustainable solutons long before this became a trend

Millo corvo is a local corn species, known for its distinct dark color and high nutritional value. However, hybrid corn and mechanization almost led to the loss of this species, as well as the immaterial culture attached to it.

Luckily, in 1996, a group of corn growers in Meiro sought samples from elders and managed to recover millo corvo.

Nowadays, Galicia produces over 100,000 tons of corn every year, leaving about half a million cobs behind.

In collaboration with local basket-weaving artisans from A Guarda, Carozo proposes the creation of a new modular, recyclable construction system made solely from corn cobs and sisal rope.

Carozo can be altered in size or shape and applied to a variety of uses in furniture, construction, or architecture.
